  • The height of the postseason begins this week for several Tri-County teams, while others will vie for state tournament berths while engaging in regional competition.
Shawnee’s Wolves, ranked 14th in Class 5A, will oppose Altus at 1 p.m. today at Carl Albert High School in a regional tournament opener. The winner of that game will then meet the Carl Albert-Capitol Hill winner at 3 p.m., while the loser of the Shawnee-Altus encounter plays at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Asher’s Indians, the second-ranked team in Class B at the end of the regular season, will take on sixth-ranked Dover at 11 a.m. Thursday (weather permitting) at Edmond Memorial High School in the quarterfinals of the state tournament. The semifinals and finals will be played at Palmer Field at Oklahoma City’s Dolese Park.
At the class 2A level, Dale’s Pirates — the top-ranked team — will take on Yale at 11 a.m. Thursday in a regional tournament at Dale. A win puts the Pirates up against the Wellston-Tonkawa winner at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Tecumseh, Bethel and McLoud will take part in Class 4A regional tournaments this week — weather permitting. The 16th-ranked Savages will be in Tuttle to face Pauls Valley at 1 p.m. Thursday, and a win would put Chad Trahan’s crew in a 3 p.m. game Thursday against the Tuttle-Heritage Hall victor.
Bethel, ranked 18th, will tangle with Cushing at 1 p.m. Thursday at Piedmont. McLoud and Piedmont will start the day’s games at 11 a.m., and the McLoud-Piedmont winner will meet the Bethel-Cushing winner at 3 p.m.
In slow-pitch softball, Asher’s Lady Indians will face Tupelo at 11:15 a.m. today in the state quarterfinals at Oklahoma City’s ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. The No. 5 Lady Indians and third-ranked Lady Tigers will play on Field 3, and the winner of that game will meet the Buffalo Valley-Leedey winner at 1:45 p.m. on Field 4.
The Class A championship game will be played at 4:45 p.m. today on Field 1.
Dale’s Lady Pirates, ranked first in Class 4A, will meet quarterfinals opponent Latta at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday on Field 2 in the state tournament at Hall of Fame Stadium. A win moves the Lady Pirates into a semifinals contest opposite the Davis-Liberty winner, and the finals of the 4A state slow-pitch tourney will be played at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday on Field 1.
Bethel will also be at Hall of Fame Stadium Wednesday and will take on Purcell at 1:45 p.m. on Field 1 in the quarterfinals of the Class 5A state tournament. If the Lady Wildcats win, they will face the Cache-Sequoyah-Tahlequah winner at 3:15 p.m. on Field 3.
The 5A title game will start at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday on Field 1.
