Class 5A’s defending state runner-up Shawnee was just 12 strokes behind defending state champion and regional champion Bishop Kelley.

The Wolves qualified for state, which will be held May 6 and 7 at the Tulsa Country Club.

Tahlequah was third Monday at 651.

Chris Karlovich of Bishop Kelley was the day’s top medalist at 149 (74-75), and Alexander Hughes of Tulsa Edison was second at 151 (75-76). Andy Litzinger of Bishop Kelley was third at 152 (72-80), and Shawnee’s Daniel Langley was fourth at 154 (78-76).

Shawnee’s Garrett McDaniel shot a 157 Monday on rounds of 80 and 77, and Morgen Pettigrew shot a 156 on rounds of 77 and 79. Teammates Cole Humphrey and Ryan Epperly shot a 173 (84-89) and a 165 (82-83), respectively.

For the Lady Wolves, Summer Skillern will compete Wednesday and Thursday in the 5A state tournament at Ardmore’s Dornick Hills.
