  • BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) — An 18-year-old Bartlesville man accused of plotting a school shooting has been found competent to stand trial.

Sammie Eaglebear Chavez is set for a formal arraignment Wednesday on charges of planning, attempting or conspiring to perform an act of violence. The Examiner-Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/10s5oZ6 ) that an evaluation from a state psychologist found that Chavez is mentally competent.

The report says Chavez is depressed and worried about his case but that he's not mentally impaired.

Prosecutors allege Chavez plotted to lure classmates into the Bartlesville High School auditorium where he planned to begin shooting. He was arrested Dec. 14 — the same day as the deadly school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Chavez has pleaded not guilty. His mother has said she did not believe her son seriously planned any violence.
