Plans are under way for Catholic Charities’ first St. Joseph’s Orphanage and Children’s Home reunion.
Plans are under way for Catholic Charities’ first St. Joseph’s Orphanage and Children’s Home reunion on Saturday, June 1, from noon to 6 p.m.
Former residents, staff and their family members are invited to attend the afternoon event to be held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Hall, 1901 N.W. 18th St., Oklahoma City. Activities include a reunion luncheon, a visit to the St. Joseph’s Orphanage site and a special Mass.
Operational from 1912 to 1965, St. Joseph’s Orphanage, 7300 N.W. 39th St., Bethany, was home to hundreds of children. In 1965, due to growth in foster care services provided by the state of Oklahoma, fewer children required long-term care. Catholic Charities responded by closing the orphanage and establishing the St. Joseph’s Children’s Home on Eastern Avenue to focus on short-term care.
The event is free of charge, but attendees are encouraged to register by Friday, May 24, to ensure enough food and space for all. To register or request more information about the event, contact Jane Moon at firstname.lastname@example.org or 405-526-2308.
