Former House Speaker Kris Steele to speak at First Baptist Church,

Guest speaker Kris Steele, former Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, will bring the Mother’s Day sermon Sunday at the First Baptist Church.

His sermon, “Generational Blessings” will focus on the vital role of mothers in nurturing children and thereby creating blessings that continue for generations. [2 Timothy 1:5.

Mothers are particularly instrumental in bringing their children to church where other Christians help nurture and raise them. Steele has lived his message with a lifetime of youth ministry beginning at age 19 when, as an OBU student. he began 3 1/2 years service as Youth Minister at Shawnee’s Wesley United Methodist Church.

This was followed by ministerial positions at Heritage and Lakeview Baptist Churches in the area.

Steele served successively as College Minister, Associate Minister, and Interim Pastor at Wesley in the years he served in the Oklahoma Legislature 2000-2012.

When term limits ended his time in office at the Capitol, he continued his public service as Executive Director of The Education and Employment Ministry which assists in rehabilitating individuals through the activities indicated its name.

Steele was graduated from OBU in 1996 with a B.A. in Religion and Political Science followed by a Master’s degree from East Central University.

He taught a variety of courses in the Tecumseh Academy—a remedial education program of the Tecumseh Public Schools. He and his wife Kellie have two daughters, Mackenzie and Madison and their curly-haired dog Lulu.

First Baptist Church is located downtown at the corner of Tenth and Union Streets.

Worship services begin at 10:30 a.m. and include a children’s sermon. The church provides a Nursery for infants and full program for pre-schoolers.
