MARIETTA — Services for Victor Herbert “Abe” Thompson, Jr., 81, of Marietta, Okla. will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013 in the Marietta Church of Christ with Bro. Les McGalliard officiating. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, will follow under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta.
Born January 13, 1932 in Marietta, the son of Victor Herbert Thompson, Sr. and Dewey Richey Thompson, Mr. Thompson passed away Saturday, May 18, in Lake Country Nursing Center, Marietta.
Victor was born and raised in Marietta and had been a resident here most of his life. He worked at B&G Grocery from 1967 to 1978 and then was employed as a parts clerk for Cain’s Auto Parts and D&W Auto Parts until 2005. His hobbies were dune buggies, fishing and building model cars and planes. He also enjoyed working on Volkswagens and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club and the Marietta Church of Christ. Victor and Barbara Ann Lambert were married in Montague, Texas on August 4, 1965.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Monroe Thompson; sister, Alyne Griffin; and great nephew, Richey Robbins.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Thompson of the home; son, Charles Everett Tanner of Ardmore, Okla.; daughter, Vickie Rushing of Marietta; three grandchildren, Destry Rushing, Shelbie Rushing and Rachel Tanner Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers will be Jesse Kirk, Dude Powell, Jimmy Williams, Jimmy Gray, Richard Quisenberry and Richard Cain. Honorary bearers are Tommy Griffin, Roger Griffin, Lloyd Cox, Wesley Cox and all of Victor’s dune buggy buddies.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
