Melvin and Loretta Johnson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary July 16, 2013.
The couple met in Earlsboro. Loretta was waiting to be picked up on a date by Melvin's friend, but his friend sent him instead. The couple fell in love and were married in Shawnee by Brother Arnold at the First Church of God (now Faith Community Church of God), where they are still members today.
They made their home in Shawnee where they raised three children, Donald Johnson, Daryl Johnson and Tonya Johnson Bussell. They have one son-in-law, Brandon Bussell and one grandson, Bray Bussell.
They are both retired from Tinker Air force Base. The couple enjoys traveling, motorcycle riding, church, spending time with family and friends and taking care of others.
They will be honored July 13 with a reception at Immanuel Baptist Church.
