  • Jim and Ramona Farthing of Shawnee celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 13, 2013.
After meeting while students at Oklahoma Baptist University, they were married in the First Baptist Church of Muskogee on July 13, 1963. They lived in Durham, N.C., for three years while both attended graduate school at Duke University. They returned to the OBU faculty in 1967 and served in various faculty and administrative capacities, retiring in 2004 after 37 years at OBU.
The Farthings have been active members of the First Baptist church, Shawnee, throughout their lives in Shawnee.
Jim is the son of the late J.T. and Theresa Farthing of Shawnee, and Ramona is the daughter of the late Raymond and Verdena Edwards of Muskogee.
They have one son, David, who married the former Sheila Wilson of Drumright. They have three grandchildren, Jacob, Katherine, and Madison. David and his family live in Potomac Falls, Va.
The Farthings were fortunate to be able to have an early celebration of their anniversary in June 2013 in the form of a trip to France accompanied by their son and daughter-in-law and their grandchildren.
