Dorothy Lee Pitts, 81, of Tecumseh, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital.
She was born June 17, 1932, to John and Lula (Pollack) Pixley in Wolf as one of eight children.
She married Charlie Pitts Sept. 23, 1949, and graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1950.
In addition to being a homemaker and mother, she attended beauty school and briefly worked as the general manager of a Merle Norman cosmetics store in Santa Paula, Calif. She also sold Rubbermaid and other products through home parties and in California, she sang in a traveling choir that was broadcast weekly on television and radio.
She was very active in church and a member of Evangelistic Center until she was no longer able to attend. She enjoyed helping anyone in need and loved visiting with friends and family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Sheila Smith; infant brother Floyd Harold Pixley; three brothers, Orvel Pixley, John B. Pixley and Houston Pixley; and three sisters, Florene Meeks, Inez Shahan and Geneva Brazzel.
Survivors include her husband and three children, Bill Pitts, Jim Pitts and Cathy Followwill; six grandchildren, Jennifer Pitts, Renee Ring, Aaron Followwill , Jeremy Followwill, Skye Pierce and Kendra Smith; six great-grandsons; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Evangelistic Center with the Rev. Mickey Keith officiating.
