Shawnee police have a recovered a guitar that was stolen from a Shawnee man who was assaulted while playing songs in Woodland Veterans Park earlier this week.
Kenneth Weathers of Shawnee, who is partially blind in one eye, was reportedly punched in the face, with suspects taking his Fender guitar.
Shawnee Police Detective Ronnie Wilson is investigating this case, which involved recovering Weathers’ stolen guitar from a local pawnshop on Friday. That led police to the suspect who allegedly pawned the guitar.
Police on Friday arrested Robert Owens, 44, on a complaint of false declaration of ownership in pawn. Owens was booked into the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center; formal charges have not been filed.
Reports in the case indicate Owens told detectives he was eating at the Salvation Army when he was approached by a man and agreed to pawn a guitar for him.
While Owens is a suspect for pawning the stolen guitar, the search is ongoing for the suspect who assaulted Weathers and took the guitar during Monday’s incident.
According to reports, police believe Weathers’ assailant is a homeless man.
