  • Look back at yesterday in library’s “Remembering Benson Park” program

Take a step back in time to Shawnee’s past at the presentation “Remembering Benson Park,” at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, in Community Room A of the Shawnee Public Library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.

All ages will learn about the past of the area as Tom Henry and members of the Pottawatomie County Historical Society will share photos and memories about the park, which was a staple of the Shawnee and Tecumseh regions in some of the cities’ early days. From 1907 to 1932, the park featured an amusement park and other activities.

It was located south of Shawnee on Benson Park Road and east of Highway 18. The area today features acres of pecan harvesting.

Registration is not required to attend the program.
