Oklahoma Baptist has its first football captains since 1940.
Oklahoma Baptist has its first football captains since 1940, naming eight players to the honor Friday night.
Defensive captains are Christian Edmonds, Kimes Gilbert, Nelson Mederios and Keegan Metcalf. Offensive captains are Turner Coon, Clae Grauer, Nyko Symonds and Blake Woodard.
“I know that our players selected captains that will represent this team in the right way,” said head coach Chris Jensen. “It wasn't my plan to have so many, but the voting dictated that we have four on offense and four on defense. I know that we have been blessed with strong leaders, and my prayer is that God gives them wisdom and courage as they step into this new role.”
Edmonds is a defensive lineman from Ardmore, Gilbert is a defensive lineman from Oklahoma City, Mederios is a defensive back from Edmond and Metcalf is a linebacker from Elk City.
Coon is a wide receiver from Dale, Grauer is a quarterback from Claremore, Symonds is a wide receiver from Oklahoma City and Woodard is a quarterback from Newcastle.
OBU plays its first football game in 73 years on Saturday, Aug. 31, at home against Southwestern College (Kan.).
