The Pirates of Dale remained undefeated Saturday by edging Asher 3-0 in the championship game of the Dale Tournament.
Dalton Tillison earned the pitching victory after allowing six hits, fanning eight and walking three in six innings of work. Reliever Jace Wilkins retired the side in order in the seventh inning while striking out two.
Tillison struck out the side in the second inning.
Asher, in dropping its first game against four victories, was led at the plate by Hunter Fowler with two singles.
Tanner Nelson of Dale had two hits, including a single to lead off the bottom of the first. Nelson came around to score on a Chase Byndas single.
Dale, 3-0, scored its other two runs in the fifth. Gage Ross, who singled, eventually scored on a groundout by Hunter Sanford. Byndas had a sacrifice fly to left field to conclude the scoring.
“It was a pretty cut-and-dry quick game,” Dale head coach Jerry Sanford said. “It was a well-played game with good defense and it was well-pitched.”
Losing hurler Tanner Andrews posted a complete-game six-hitter. He walked just one batter while collecting six strikeouts.
Dale will continue its season at 4:30 p.m. Monday with a varsity/junior varsity doubleheader at Latta. The Pirates will travel to Okarche for a 4:30 p.m. Tuesday twinbill.
Asher, 4-1, will play one 6:30 p.m. varsity game Tuesday at Varnum.
