The members of the City of Shawnee Beautification Committee announced the winners of the 2013 Beautification awards recently. The beautification committee is appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Commission.
The winner of the Kickapoo Business is Consultant Services, LLC at 678 W. Kickpoo Spur and they received a $25 gift card donated by Lowe’s.
Langley Management Company at 1010 E. MacArthur was awarded the other business location category and was given a gift card donated by Shawnee Garden Center.
The Mabee Gerrer Museum garden was recognized for community organization as was given a
$25 gift certificate donated Don’s plants on East Highland.
The fourth award was the Residential Award with a gift card from Buford White’s Ace Building Center to Kathryn Simon, of Shawnee.
Currently there are eight members volunteering their efforts and they meet once a month at City Hall at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend any meeting or to find out more information about these awards.
Linda and Paul Malley solicited gift cards for the donations and the committee is thankful to have businesses donate to such a positive influence in the city.
To participate in the next months a city-wide beautification program with several categories. The categories are:
A business category categorized by location:
Downtown Business, Kickapoo Business, Harrison Business, Other location
Individual Residential yard (must be done by owner, not landscape contractor)
(Can be a street area adopted by an individual)
A community organization including civic groups, membership organizations, or churches:
Civic Group, Organization, Church
A youth group:
Boy or Girl Scout Troop, FFA, 4-H group (youth under 16 years old), Church Youth Group.
Any new business in Shawnee started after January 1, 2013

To enter submit a photograph of your garden or yard, or front planters for judging between June 30 and Sept. 30, 2013.. All photographs become the property of the City of Shawnee Beautification Committee and will not be returned. You may also submit a high resolution digital photo to: email@example.com.
Gardens/yards will not be eligible for judging unless a photograph is submitted.
You may enter in one or more categories but each on a separate form.
