  • Tarpey 50th anniversary

  • Richard and Teresa (Lackey) Tarpey will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Aug. 24, 2013.
    They were married at 7 p.m., Aug. 24, 1963, at First Christian Church in Stillwater.
    Richard graduated high school in Stillwater, and Teresa graduated from Bethel. They both attended OSU where they met, were married, and then graduated with BS degrees in 1964. Teresa later obtained her master’s degree in 1987. Richard became an officer in the U.S. Army Signal Corp and served in Orlean and Portier, France, and Kaiserslatern, Germany, from 1964-1967. Two of their three sons were born overseas, Randy in Chinon, France, and Russell in Landstuhl, Germany, and Rex was born in Shawnee. They have six grandchildren, Randy and Mary Tarpey have two daughters, Olivia and Abby; Russell and Tarpey have two daughters, Karina and Kyla; and Rex and Kristen Tarpey have a son and daughter, Campbell and Hayden Skye.
    Richard worked at and later bought Davis Poultry farms, which had a hatchery and feed mill in Shawnee, a 24-barn production facility in Seminole, and various contract egg barns around the state. Teresa worked at various medical technology jobs until she obtained a teaching certificate and then taught high school science at Varnum High School, Shawnee High School, Dale High School and finally North Rock Creek. Both retired in 1993.
    They currently enjoy bridge with friends in Seminole and Ada, gardening and ranching, traveling, and worship each week with Pastor Glen Pence of FCC in Seminole. Teresa has been active in OEA, Friends of the Library in Shawnee, and the Republican Party. Richard was in Ambucs, Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, 4-H Key Club, and sponsors 4-H Hall of Fame in Payne County.
