  • Tanner Nelson gave up a leadoff single but held Dover in check from there, and the Dale Pirates smothered the Longhorns 10-0 Thursday in the opening round of the Union City Tournament of Champions.

The game was stopped after four innings on the run rule.

Dale led 6-0 after the first, and 9-0 after the second.

Nelson (2-0) struck out three and did not permit a walk. The Pirates played errorless behind him.

Hunter Pinkston belted his second home run of the season — this one good for three runs — as the Pirates came away with nine total hits. Xavier Lanham added two singles, and Gage Ross finished with two doubles and four runs batted in.

Now 6-0, Dale plays at 7 p.m. Friday against the winner between Glencoe and Binger-Oney.
