  • Asher’s Caleb Dubler fired a two-hitter Friday to knock off Latta 5-2 and earn a split of a doubleheader.

Latta recorded a 2-0 victory in the opener.

Dubler, in improving to 3-0, struck out seven batters and walked two in seven innings.

Asher, 8-2, collected four hits in the win to go along with three Latta errors.

Asher scored twice in the top of the first inning on two passed balls. Trucker Lee added a run-scoring single and Hunter Fowler chipped in with a sacrifice fly.

Dubler was Asher’s only multiple hitter in the nightcap with two singles.

In the opener, Tanner Andrews was the hard-luck loser after allowing only four hits. He registered nine strikeouts and walked one in six innings. One of Latta’s two runs was unearned.

“Tanner threw well enough to win,” Asher head coach Shane Coker said.

For Asher, Dubler, Lee, Phillip Leon and Corey Holman had a single apiece in the first game.

“We had good pitching on the day but we committed four errors,” Coker said.

Asher will begin play in the Roff Tournament by taking on Oktaha at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 29.
