  • Kaitlyn Deardorff’s run-scoring double in the bottom of the 10th inning provided the winning run as Shawnee upended Durant 3-2 Friday night.

Lexi Freeman led off the 10th with a walk and moved to second on Taylor Chamblin’s sacrifice bunt. After Jessica Strong was plunked by a pitch, Freeman scored easily from second base on Deardorff’s blast into left center.

Shawnee posted its first run in the second when Kylee Thompson doubled, moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on Cierra Gibson’s sacrifice fly to left.

The Lady Wolves made it 2-0 in the third when Freeman tripled to left and crossed the plate on Chamblin’s single to left.

Durant scored two unearned runs in the fourth on two singles and an error.

Thompson captured the pitching win to move to 4-0. She permitted only two hits, struck out three and walked four in 10 innings.

“She threw well,” Shawnee coach Todd Boyer said. “She was constantly ahead in the count and was able to throw it where she wanted it.”

Freeman was the ringleader of Shawnee’s nine-hit attack with a 3-of-4 outing.

The Lady Wolves also notched a 10-1 triumph over Tulsa Kelley Thursday night as Thompson surrendered five hits and fanned four. Kelley’s only run came on a home run on the first pitch of the game.

Kelsey Simmons led Shawnee offensively with a 3-for-4 effort that included a triple. Chamblin added two singles and Freeman drove in three runs.

Shawnee is 5-2 (all district games). Boyer’s squad will entertain Tecumseh at 5 p.m. Aug. 27 in a varsity/junior varsity doubleheader.
