The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s warrant team and other authorities surrounded a rural residence Friday to arrest a man being sought on felony lewd acts charges from Pittsburg County.
Warrants Team Commander Chad Pope said authorities nabbed Franklin Dale Wyatt Jr., 34, of McAlester, on a $150,000 felony arrest warrant.
Information about the man’s whereabouts developed Friday so a tactical operation was planned as crews prepared to serve the warrant.
Authorities converged on a home at 30770 Coker Road, Pope said, where an entry team arrested Wyatt without incident.
He was wanted on charges filed in Pittsburg County Aug. 20 for two counts of lewd or indecent proposals to a child under age 16, lewd molestation, along with domestic abuse assault and battery.
Pope said a tip, followed by investigative work, preceded the arrest.
“He was definitely on the run and hiding out,” Pope said, adding Wyatt allegedly had family connections in this area.
“The sheriff is sending a message to those on the run from the law: “Don’t come to Pottawatomie County,’” Pope said.
Members of the warrant team were assisted by David Spector of the Absentee Shawnee Tribal police, Pope said, along with Sheriff’s Lt. Jimmy Brewer and Deputy Stephanie Brewer.
Wyatt was being held in the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center Friday afternoon, but he is expected to be transferred back to Pittsburg County to face charges there.
