The Shawnee Conservation District has received state funding for locally led cost-share assistance for Program Year 15. The board of directors approved two practices, brush management, which is the removal of woody (non-herbaceous or succulent) plants including those that are invasive and noxious and new pond construction.
Applicants must be a cooperator within the Shawnee Conservation District boundaries which covers the northern two-thirds of Pottawatomie County. Applicants must certify they own or operate at least 20 acres of land of which more than $1,000 of soil-dependent products are sold annually. The payment rate is 75 percent of the state average cost, with a minimum payment of $500 and maximum payment of $3,000.
The district will be only be accepting applications from Oct. 1–31, 2013 at the district office - 127 N. Park in Shawnee between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
