Paige Hughes topped a 59-entrant field Friday, propelling Shawnee’s girls to a first-place finish in the Jacket Invitational XC meet.

Hughes covered the 3,200-meter course in a winning time of 13:14.

Shawnee also headed a 10-team field with 31 points. Runner-up Putnam City West finished with 48 points.

Also composing top-10 finishes for the Lady Wolves were Daylan Storie, fifth at 13:27; Lynsey West, seventh at 13:33; and Sadie Cullison, eighth at 13:36.

“We had solid practices all week coming into this meet,” said Shawnee coach Kendra Ray. “The girls executed our game plan near perfection. Today was a great day.”

Shawnee’s JV girls’ also garnered a first-place finish from Avery Kosemund with a time of 14:39.

The SHS boys came in second in a 10-team field with 72 points. Choctaw captured the team title with 66 points.

Seth Maston had Shawnee’s best finish, ninth, with a time of 18:54 on the 5,000-meter course. Tyler Day was 12th at 19:29 and Colby Chamblin came in 13th at 19:30.

“We are very pleased with the way our boys ran today,” Ray said. “Today was solid effort all the way around. They fought hard and fell a little short of the title in the end.”

There were 55 individual entrants.

Shawnee’s varsity teams will see their next action Saturday, Sept. 28, at the OSU Jamboree.
