  • Caitlyn Pitchford’s sacrifice bunt allowed Jaelin Flewallen to score the winning run, and Class 2A’s top-ranked Dale Lady Pirates came away with a 3-2 triumph over Class 4A’s No. 7 Bethel in eight innings Monday.

Dale scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to an RBI single by Flewallen and a sac fly by Pitchford. Bethel knotted things up in the top of the seventh on Kelsey Eropkin’s two-out, two-run double.

“It was pretty exciting,” said Dale coach Andy Powell. “When us and Bethel get together, it’s usually a pretty good game.”

Both teams finished with four hits. Erin Harris struck out three in earning the win and moving to 15-1.

Kim Herron took the loss for the Lady Wildcats.

Now 29-1, Dale — with a district bye — hosts Washington and Chandler Thursday. Washington and Chandler each received byes in Class 3A districts.

Bethel is scheduled to go to Lindsay at 5 p.m. today.
