The women of Shawnee’s Junior Service League are busy taking orders for one of their fundraisers of the year.
Every Fall for the last 40 years hundreds of pumpkins are hand painted and sold throughout the state in an effort to raise funds that go directly back into the Shawnee community through the funding grants that non-profit organizations of Shawnee can apply to receive.
Last year alone, nearly $10,000 was allotted to fund grant requests from the sales generated from pumpkins. “The Pumpkin fundraiser is a terrific project for our community,” JSL member and Pumpkin chair Kelli Ann Rollins explains.
She added “many people in the community purchase these pumpkins to decorate their own homes or as gifts for others, and feel good about it because their purchase does directly makes a difference.”
To reserve a pumpkin contact any JSL member or by ordering on the website, www.jslshawnee.org or by calling (405) 323-1804.
Those interested in applying for a grant can obtain an application from the JSL website, www.jslshawnee.org. All applications are due Friday, Oct. 4.
