  • Shawnee Little Theatre begins its 46th year with the Tony Award-winning drama "The Crucible" based on the Salem witch trials. Directed by Brandy Trout Bond, the play by Arthur Miller is celebrating 50 years of production as well this year.

Initially called "The Chronicles of Sarah Good,""The Crucible" is a dramatized and partially fictionalized story of the Salem witch trials that took place in the Province of Massachusetts Bay during 1692 and 1693. Miller wrote the play as an allegory of McCarthyism, when the U.S. government blacklisted accused communists. It has been acclaimed through the years as one of the cornerstones of American drama.
