OBI, White’s Ace Building Center to host blood drive.
To show their community and school spirit, blood donors can give with Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) at White’s Ace Building Center. White’s and the Shawnee High School boys’ basketball team will sponsor a blood drive, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11.
Oklahoma Blood Institute exclusively provides every drop of blood needed by patients in St. Anthony, Shawnee, Angelic Family Hospice and all other metro-area hospitals. Some 144 other medical facilities across the state also rely on OBI donors to provide life-saving blood for their patients.
Each blood donor, 16 years or older*, will receive the choice of a free University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University donor T-shirt and be entered to win a pair of tickets to the 2013 Bedlam football game in Stillwater.**
Through a special initiative to support the Global Blood Fund (GBF), any donor can forgo the T-shirt. In turn, funds so designated will be contributed to GBF, a nonprofit that provides blood center technology and supplies to struggling blood centers around the world so they can meet local needs through voluntary blood donation.
Donations can be made every 56 days and typically take about an hour. Appointments are not required but can be made at obi.org or by calling Barbara Boyce at 405-275-4900.
* 16 year olds must weigh at least 125 and provide signed parental permission; 17 year olds must weigh at least 125 pounds; 18+ year olds must weigh at least 110 pounds.
