  • ESA meets in Sulphur

  • District 4 meeting held at School for the Deaf.

  • Members from District 4 of the Oklahoma State Council of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Int’l (ESA) met in Sulphur on Saturday at the School for the Deaf”.
     
    Coordinator for District IV Robbin Brown conducted a short meeting.
    The project at this meeting was to make and decorate
    pumpkins out of paper sacks.
     
    Election was held for a nominating committee for 2014-15. Key Brader, Beta Rho, Del City is Chairman. Members elected to serve were Nancy Buck, Delta Kappa- Norman; Lora Thompson, Zeta Gamma-Shawnee; Gloria Torres, Beta Rho-Del City and Maxine Wheelan, Delta Chi-Midwest City.
     
    Sue Cole, manager of the School for the Deaf introduced two teachers, Deb Ulery and Gina Foster. Ulery has been with the school for seven years after teaching high school math.
     
    She is now the FACS Teacher which involves teaching cooking, parenting and career readiness and several other classes concerning learning with impairment.
     
    She adopted one of the students when he was 13 and now at 21 has a career in Washington DC and is going to college. “The Love of her life” she states.
    Foster teaches Occupational Training Opportunities for the Deaf and she told of the many job placements of the students. Some of the students work at restaurants, veteran’s centers, churches, Sonic, Walmart and veterinary clinics.
     
    There are over 120 students in “The School for the Deaf” in Sulphur and most all are sponsored by a member or chapter of ESA. This has been a project of ESA for over 30 years. They also sponsor the School for the Blind in Muskogee.
     
    Many of the state officers of ESA were present including state president Tina McKamie, Judi York and Deb Hughes all from Tulsa.
     
    Members from Del City, Midwest City, Choctaw, Lawton, Norman, Seminole and Shawnee were present.
    The School furnished lunch for the members and some were able to meet and visit with their adopted student.
