Oklahoma GEAR UP makes it possible for high schoolers to visit OSU in Stillwater.
Recently, 115 11th grade students from McLoud High School attended a campus visit and tour at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, thanks to partnership funding support from Oklahoma GEAR UP.
Oklahoma GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federal grant program administered by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to provide students and families statewide with college access information and planning resources.
GEAR UP also works closely with 24 partner school districts to provide professional training and support for educators, learning and leadership opportunities for students, college planning information for families and mentoring support for students from 7th grade through college.
Campus tours are just one of the direct student services that GEAR UP helps schools districts provide. Campus tours are offered as a way to provide students an opportunity to see what a college campus looks like and experience a sample of college life.
While on campus, students learn about academic programs, financial aid opportunities, campus housing and tips for applying to college. They are encouraged to eat lunch on campus and have as much of a day “in the life of a college student” as possible.
