State Vet board to observe Centennial.

The Oklahoma State Veterinary Medical Examiners (OSBVME) will celebrate its centennial anniversary this month. The board will host a come and go Open House on Friday, Oct. 18, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

“This centennial celebration is a great way to honor the long standing practice of veterinary medicine in Oklahoma,” said Cathy Kirkpatrick, executive director of OSBVME. “This celebration is monumental to our state history as the practice has grown and changed throughout the past 100 years and celebrates Oklahoma’s accomplishment in veterinary medicine.”

The OSBVME was established in 1913 with five board members under the act “To Define and Regulate The Practice Of Veterinary Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry, In The State Of Oklahoma.” To celebrate the centennial anniversary, the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners is hosting an Open House on Friday, Oct. 18, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. at the OSBVME office at 2920 N. Lincoln Blvd.

“In 1913 there were 289 doctors licensed under the Oklahoma State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners,” said Dr. Jim Lee of Oklahoma City and president of the OSBVME board. “Today, more than 1948 doctors are actively licensed to practice in Oklahoma.”
