Shawnee Little Theatre to hold Tom Sawyer auditions.

Join Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and Becky Thatcher in the greatest summer adventure ever told as Shawnee Little Theatre holds auditions for an imaginative, highly theatrical adaptation of Mark Twain’s classic “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”.

Director Rebecca Fry will be casting six male and two female roles ages 15 through 40, however older auditioners are welcome. Many actors will play multiple parts in the new script adapted by Linda Eason.

Auditions are Sunday, Oct. 13, and Monday, Oct.14, at 6:30 p.m. at Shawnee Little Theatre, 1829 Airport Rd. Since this is a high energy and physical production, those auditioning should come dressed comfortably and be prepared to demonstrate dance and movement skills. Auditioners should enter through the north parking lot red stage door. “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” will be performed Dec. 6 through 14, at SLT.

The brand new script has been acclaimed by critics in its initial productions. The Kansas City Star called the show “Clever, creative…an inventive, high-spirited and endearing stage version." "It is exciting and engrossing, for adults as well as children…the whole production soars like a dream of

America long ago, bursting with possibilities and promise,” commented the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Following “Tom Sawyer” Shawnee Little Theatre will produce “Steel Magnolias” in February 2014; “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” in April 2014 and a season extra “Thoroughly

Modern Millie, Jr.” in June 2014 with an all teenaged cast.

Begun in 1967, Shawnee Little Theatre is a non-profit community theatre staffed totally by volunteers.
