St. Gregory's Athletic Department slates barbecue for Thursday.

St. Gregory’s University will host its annual Athletic Department Bar-B-Que dinner at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, in the W.P. Wood Fieldhouse.

The dinner, which will be provided by Van’s Pig Stand, is free, but donations will be accepted for SGU’s athletic booster organization, the Cavalier Club.

A happy hour reception will precede the Bar-B-Que at 6 p.m.

Don Sumner, SGU’s Athletic Director Emeritus and current golf team coach, said the Bar-B-Que has become a great tradition because of the fellowship and fun it offers.

“The Bar-B-Que is a social event for people in Shawnee and boosters from close by to come to get together with each other and meet and greet the coaches and everyone involved with SGU Athletics,” Sumner said.

St. Gregory’s University will honor the founding members of the Cavalier Club as part of the festivities. The Cavalier Club was created in 2012 to assist the university in developing and growing the presence of the university’s athletic programs. More than 100 individuals and couples became founding members of the Cavalier Club by donating to the Athletic Department during its first year.

“We appreciate the assistance we’ve received from the Cavalier Club because it really helps us upgrade our athletic department and programs,” Sumner said. “We’ll be honoring the Founding Members of the Cavalier Club at the Bar-B-Que to show our appreciation for all of the support that they gave us this year.
