Over the past 29 years, Shawnee police have searched numerous sites as part of the investigation into the 1984 disappearance of a local teen. Investigators have added another site to that list.
Sandy Pathresa Rea was 17 when she was last seen Sept. 19, 1984.
Shawnee Police Chief Russell Frantz said a tip prompted police to conduct another search.
“We’re following leads...looking for possible evidence or clues,” he said, adding that the investigation is continuing.
Sandy was reported missing from Shawnee Bowl on North Harrison Street, with reports indicating she was trying to get a ride to a party and was last seen making a phone call from the bowling alley. But witness statements in later years of the investigation have indicated there were later sightings of her at parties at Shawnee Twin Lakes and at a local motel.
Hundreds of people have been interviewed as part of the investigation over the years. Numerous leads have been followed and many places have been searched for a body, yet there's been no sign of Sandy.
The investigation will continue.
“We’d like to solve this,” Frantz said.
