Festivities begin Oct. 26.
Inspired by “The Wizard of Oz,” the University of Central Oklahoma invites the campus and community to see why “There’s No Place Like Central” for its Homecoming 2013 celebration. The week of events starting Oct. 26 includes a day of service, a dodge ball tournament, a 5K “color run,” Central’s annual Distinguished Alumni Awards and inductions to the UCO Athletic Hall of Fame.
The week will culminate with a tailgate sponsored by the Alumni Association and the UCO-Lincoln University football matchup at 2 p.m. Nov. 2 in Wantland Stadium.
"We selected our homecoming theme, 'There's No Place Like Central,' because it captures the spirit and comfort of being surrounded by your friends and family," said Courtney James, assistant director of Campus Activities.
"But our theme took on a deeper meaning in being able to serve and celebrate our community – our home – after the May tornadoes. For us, there's no place like home to show that you care."
With that in mind, homecoming week will kick off with a day of tornado relief service on Sat., Oct. 26 with Serve Moore, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Bethel Foundation. The community is encouraged to join UCO students, alumni, faculty and staff in this effort. Register online and see a complete listing of homecoming events by visiting www.uco.edu/homecoming.
