  • Oklahoma Baptist puts its first winning streak since 1940 on the line Saturday at Central States Football League frontrunner Langston in a 2 p.m. kickoff.

After starting the season with five losses, the Bison have rolled off wins over Southwestern (Texas) and Wayland Baptist. OBU is 1-1 in the CSFL and a game back of Langston.

The Lions are 2-0 in the league after losing all four games on a schedule peppered with NCAA Football Championship Subdivision schools.

Austin Manger was named CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week last week after converting four PATs, kicking one field goal and averaging 60 yards on eight kickoffs. He comes into today’s game with 19 PATs in as many attempts. Tied for first nationally in terms of percentage, Manger’s 19 is the fifth-highest attempts among NAIA kickers who have not missed this year.

Langston’s Sheldon Augustine is eighth in the NAIA with a 15.1 yards per punt return average. He, along with punter Dave DeHarde, Ronald Burgess (DL), Will Taylor (RB) and Isaiah Ross (DB) were named preseason USA Football News Small College All-Americans.

Offensively, the Bison need to protect the quarterback. The Bison are getting sacked a conference-worst 3.5 times per game in CSFL contests. On the up-side Kimes Gilbert is the conference sacks leader with four sacks this season.

Jordan Barnes leads the Bison, averaging 68.3 rushing yards per game with Darryl Fields right behind at 65.7

Cale Grauer averages 140.6 yards passing per game, including 10 touchdowns. Nyko Symonds and Derek Serowski have been a strong 1-2 combo on the receiving end, averaging 54.3 and 52.9 yards per game, each with four touchdowns on the season.

Gilbert leads the defense with 46 tackles with Nelson Mederios right behind at 40. Gilbert has 13.5 tackles for loss on the year.

D’Ante Meeking and Clint Wilson have three interceptions each to lead the secondary, while Eugene Estes has two – both of which he has taken back for touchdowns.

Langston’s top rusher is Kievon Jackson, averaging 44.4 yards per game, while Mark Wright Jr. averages a team-best 110.2 yards passing.

Chace Green leads the defense with 48 tackles with John Hunter at 47.
