The Oklahoma House of Representatives will host a surprise celebration at 11 a.m. today in honor of a 45-year state employee’s 90th birthday.
A U.S. Army veteran who served in Italy and the Philippines during World War II, George W. Duncan began working for the Oklahoma Tax Commission as an auditor in 1968.
In 1976, he joined the Oklahoma House of Representatives as a sergeant-in-arms, a position he holds to this day. For two years of his service to the House, he served in the Office of the Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
The celebration will take place in the entrance of the Oklahoma House of Representatives Chamber on the fourth floor of the Oklahoma State Capitol.
In honor of his 90th birthday, Gov. Mary Fallin will issue a commendation that will be read during the celebration.
George met his wife, Marylou, 30 years ago after corresponding with her for 3 months and visiting her twice. She traveled to Oklahoma from the Philippines and they were married in the Guthrie Court House. She also serves as an employee of Oklahoma state government.
