Shawnee placed second with 86 points in a soggy Class 5A regional meet Saturday, and the Lady Wolves qualified as a team to compete in the 2013 state meet Saturday, Nov. 2, at Edmond Santa Fe High School.

Paige Hughes led the Lady Wolves with an eighth-place finish of 13:05, and Daylan Storie finished 17th out of 102 runners with a time of 13:26.

Blair Johnson was 21st at 13:36.

“We took on the rain and all combatants, and just came up short against Deer Creek,” said SHS coach Kendra Ray.

Deer Creek was the regional champion with 20 team points. A total of 14 teams competed.

Shawnee’s boys did not qualify as a team, but three Wolfpack runners will compete as individuals in the state meet. Tyler Day qualified with his time of 18:09 (27th place); Camacho Hernandez qualified at 18:16 (28th place); and Seth Maston qualified at 18:19 (30th place).

The Wolves, as a team, finished ninth with 201 points in the 12-team field.

“The guys didn’t run very well… quite possibly our worst race of the season,” Ray said.

There were 110 total runners in the boys’ field.
