Shawnee, Tecumseh libraries plan activities.

The Shawnee Public Library has a busy upcoming schedule in its Computer Training Center, with classes on a variety of topics in the coming weeks.

Each class is offered free of charge but registration is required, as space is limited in the CTC.

Upcoming classes and dates include:

Portable Library Resource to Go, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 – Participants will explore resources for busy people on the go, including the list of databases through the library website, the Pioneer Library System mobile app, and more.

Brain Games for Seniors, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 – Seniors can explore free sites for interactive brain-sharpening games, including AARP, Yahoo! and more.

Facebook 101, 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 – Get a taste of the world of social networking through one of the most popular websites of its type. Intermediate computer skills are required to participate.

Computer File Management, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 – Practice creating, organizing, renaming and deleting computer files into different locations and formats, as well as saving to cameras or smartphones.

Opt in to Overdrive, 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 – Participants can learn how to access free content through Overdrive, the library’s provider for downloadable items.

Story Times set in Shawnee

The Shawnee Public Library invites some of its youngest visitors to take part in the fun and learning of Preschool Story Time and Baby Story Time at the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.

The library will host Preschool Story Time, for ages 3 to 5, at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Nov. 5 and 12.

And Baby Story Time, for ages younger than 3, takes place at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Registration is not required to take part in any of the story times.

Tecumseh Public Library hosts Thursday Toddler Story Times

The Tecumseh Public Library will resume its Toddler Story Time at 11 a.m. on upcoming Thursdays, Nov. 7, 14 and 21.

Library Assistants Sue Walker and Cyndi Seeley will offer a variety of songs, stories and fingerplays for young children and their caregivers.

Also, the Pioneer Library System’s initiative Growing Like a Read will be introduced. Growing Like a Read promotes brain development for literacy skills in children from birth to age 4 through reading, talking, playing and singing. It is funded through a grant from the Inasmuch Foundation.

Registration is not required to take part.
