Billy Jack (B.J.) Wallace, son of the late W.E. and Mattie (Hulen) Wallace, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Mercy Hospital Ardmore. B.J. was born June 14, 1926, at Wilson and moved with his family to Ardmore as a child and attended Ardmore schools.
During World War II, B.J. served in the U.S. Army. A rifleman, he also received glider training and received his Glider Badge. Stationed in the Pacific Theater during the liberation of the Philippines, he was in the battle of Luzon. He also served in the occupation of Japan. For his service, he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with a Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star, The Army Occupation Ribbon-Japan, two Overseas service bars, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Ribbon.
Following his military service, B.J. returned to Ardmore and married the love of his life, Pearl Faulkenberry, April 9, 1947, at Ardmore; the best thing that ever happened to him. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary earlier this year. B.J. dearly loved the time spent with his wife, Pearl; son, Billy; daughter, Debbie; his grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
A member of the Southwest Baptist Church, B.J. had been a 35 year employee of the Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company, having been a meter reader, worked on a line crew and in the storeroom.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Pearl of the home; his son, Billy Wallace and his wife, Karen; his daughter, Debbie Merlyn and her husband, Steve, all of Ardmore; also his grandchildren, Greg Merlyn and his wife, Heather, Stephanie McGuire and her husband, Patrick, Derek Wallace and Jacey Alford and her husband, Preston; and great-grandchildren, Colton and Hana Merlyn, and one more on the way. Also surviving are his sisters, Gloria Motley and her husband, Bob, Shirley Wallace Strawn and Dixie Wallace; and a brother, Don Wallace.
In addition to his parents, B.J. was preceded in death by an infant brother; and a brother, Thomas Wallace.
Graveside rites will be at 10 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, in Rose Hill Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Mike Johnston. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army.
Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Merlyn, Derek Wallace, Patrick McGuire, Mike Strawn, Preston Alford and Caleb Gragg.
