More than 100 people attended an event to celebrate the 100th birthday of Jimmy Ray at Legacy Park Senior Living.
Mayor Wes Mainord presented Ray with a proclamation making Oct. 19, 2013, Jimmy Ray Day in Shawnee.
A retired fire chief, Kenneth Nix, was on hand to put out any fire that might be started by all of those candles being ignited all at once. Kenneth also presented Ray with a $100 bill, a dollar a day for each year of his life.
Pete Hester of the Park Street Band looked on in shock, holding his guitar and waiting to start the dance. Ray danced every dance (well, almost).
