  • Powered by a 548-yard offensive splurge, Chandler kept its playoff hopes alive Friday night with a 56-26 District 3A-2 thumping of Perkins-Tryon.

Chandler, 5-4 overall, raised its district mark to 2-3. That puts the Lions in sole possession of fourth place. Perkins-Tryon is 2-4 but has completed its district season.

For Chandler to advance to the playoffs it must stay within 14 points of undefeated Seminole Friday night or have Prague defeat Bristow. Chandler will entertain Seminole.

Chandler accumulated 241 yards rushing and 307 passing while limiting Perkins-Tryon to 182 total yards.

Chandler utilized two quarterbacks, senior Hunter Hudson and sophomore Mason Myers, and both had banner overall outings.

Hudson completed seven of nine passes for 281 yards, including four touchdowns.

Myers caught five passes, three for touchdowns, while accumulating 193 yards. He had TD receptions of 62, 20 and 65 yards. He also rushed for 96 yards on seven carries, threw two TD passes and intercepted a pass.

Junior teammate Heath Gray was also outstanding, rushing for 166 yards on 11 carries, including touchdown explosions of 55 and 56 yards in the second half. Gray was also on the receiving end of a 92-yard scoring pass from Hudson as Chandler took a 28-19 lead into the intermission.

Also scoring touchdowns for the Lions were Rodney Lewis on a 10-yard reception and Austin Smith on a 5-yard catch.

Smith and fellow Lion Jacob Zimbelman had a fumble recovery apiece. Zimbelman also was accurate on all eight of his extra-point kicks.
