  • Quarterback Joseph Wood cranked out a game-high 239 rushing yards on 45 attempts, and he threw for another 188 as McLoud stunned fourth-ranked Ada 33-20 in a District 4A-2 encounter Friday night.

The game was tied at 13 at halftime, and McLoud got greedy down the stretch — limiting the Cougars to just three second-half possessions. The second of Robert Hill’s two interceptions brought Ada’s only third-quarter drive to a halt at the McLoud 35, and that eventually translated into 27-13 lead for the hosts as Wood punctuated the possession with a 5-yard keeper with 10:52 left in the fourth.

Ada’s Jeremiah Larry scored on a 70-yard run to make it 27-20, and another Wood keeper (from 11 yards out) brought up the final Margin. Wood deflated Ada’s last hope with his own interception — the third for the Cougars’ Cory Kilby — with 1:44 left to play.

McLoud scored first on the night courtesy of Wood’s 7-yard touchdown toss to Bryson Garcia. Ada responded on a 3-yard run by Kilby, and with both point-after kicks being unsuccessful, it was 6-all.

Ada’s only lead, at 13-6, was generated on a 75-yard TD toss from Kilby to Larry. The Redskins got that one back as Woods hit Will Olds for a 69-yarder, and the hosts scored twice more for some cushion — a 5-yard TD throw from Wood to Garcia, and Wood’s short-range keeper.

McLoud ended the night with 465 total yards of offense (277 rushing, 188 passing), and Ada finished with 294 (106 rushing, 191 passing). Apart from Ada’s three interceptions, there were no other forced turnovers.

McLoud improves to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in 4A-2, while Ada — suffering its first district loss — drops to 7-2 overall and 5-1. The district’s top-ranked team, Douglass (8-1, 6-0), recorded a 22-15 win over Harrah Friday.

McLoud faces Harrah (5-4, 4-2) at home on Friday, Nov. 8, to close out the regular season.
