  • The Shawnee and Tecumseh Public Libraries, and all of the facilities of the Pioneer Library System, will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, for the observation of Veterans Day.

  • The Shawnee and Tecumseh Public Libraries, and all of the facilities of the Pioneer Library System, will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, for the observation of Veterans Day.
    In the meantime, check out the library system’s online resources at www.justsoyouknow.us, where the Virtual Library branch is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
    The library will reopen for its normal hours on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
     
     
    Library seeks crafters, vendors for Christmas Gala
    The Tecumseh Public Library is looking for crafters and vendors for their 9th Annual Old Fashioned Christmas Gala from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Tecumseh City Hall, 114 N. Broadway.
    The gala is an annual event which attracts hundreds of people and features free pictures with Santa, entertainment, crafts, games, and a Christmas store. The library has a limited number of tables available for crafters or vendors who offer low cost Christmas items for sale in a special children’s “Christmas Store.”There is no charge for the tables and only one 8 ft. table per vendor is allowed.
    The tables fill up quickly so call 598-5955 to reserve a spot or for more information. The event is sponsored by the Tecumseh Public Library and the Friends of the Tecumseh Library.
     
     
    Tecumseh Public Library set to resume Babygarten story time
    Babygarten is back at the Tecumseh Public Library.
    The library will resume its popular Babygarten Story Time series for another six-week session beginning at 11 a.m. Tuesday Nov. 12, at the library, 114 N. Broadway.
    The story times are designed for ages 18 months and younger and their caregivers and feature rhymes, songs, a craft and playtime. Library Assistant Sue Walker leads the weekly programs, which will run each week at the same day and time through Dec. 17.
    The Babygarten program runs for six-week sessions, and Walker said it’s important for participants to try to attend through the whole series if possible.
    Registration is not required to take part in the program.

    Food for Fines is back at the library
    ’Tis the season for the Pioneer Library System’s annual Food for Fines promotion, which will run from Nov. 16-24 in each of the system’s branch libraries.
    It’s easy to participate. During Food for Fines, cardholders may bring one can, box or bag of non-expired, non-perishable, unopened and undamaged food which may be exchanged for $1 credit each on fines, up to a maximum waiver of $20 off an account.
    Page 2 of 2 - However, donations do not count toward lost item charges or fees associated with debt collection.
    In 2012, the Food for Fines promotion brought in approximately 3.3 tons of unopened food items donated by PLS patrons, which were donated to organizations in each community served by the library system.

    Take home a S’more pie from Tecumseh library program
    Just in time for the holidays, the Tecumseh Public Library is giving children a chance to take home a tasty dessert from a library program.
    They’ll be putting together the ingredients for a S’more Pie at the afterschool program, at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at the library, 114 N. Broadway.
    The program is for ages 5-11, and children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
    Supplies are provided by the library but are limited in amount, so the program is limited to the first 15 children to sign up.
