Fifth annual regional exhibit continues.

Don’t Waste: Create!, the fifth annual Regional exhibit at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art continues until Nov. 24.

The MGMoA has partnered with Sustainable Shawnee to draw attention to the importance of recycling. The exhibit features 175 artworks inspired by recycling and created by local Oklahoma artists of all ages.

“There are some very creative pieces in the exhibit. We have some amazingly talented artists in and around our community,” said Delaynna Trim, Curator of Collections.

The community can join the Museum and Sustainable Shawnee and get into the spirit of recycling by bringing their own recyclable paper products to the museum during the run of the exhibit.

“Anyone who brings in an old phone book, magazine, or newspaper, will get in to the museum free during the run of the exhibition (November 9-24),” said MGMoA curator of education Donna Merkt.

All of the paper products should be free of food waste, as to avoid attracting pests to the museum. Sustainable Shawnee will recycle the paper products following the exhibit. For more information, please visit

Sustainable Shawnee is also providing an opportunity for the community to recycle their electronics during the exhibition. Residential electronic devices can be dropped off at Direct Colors, Inc., 430 E. 10th Street, on Saturday, November 16, from 8:30am-2:00pm. For more information, please visit or call Direct Colors at 405-275-6657.
