  • OKLAHOMA CITY — No. 23 Oklahoma Baptist defeated No. 15 Xavier (La.) 75-46 in the opening game of the Capital City Classic hosted by Oklahoma City at Abe Lemons Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla. The Lady Bison struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first half, shooting just 32.3 percent from the field, including going just 2-9 from three-point range. OBU and Xavier traded leads in a first half that featured seven ties. The Lady Bison were able to hold the Gold Nuggets to just 37.9 percent shooting and were tied 28-28 heading to intermission. The Lady Bison pulled away in the second half, outscoring Xavier 47-18 on 68 percent shooting. OBU was led by Jalissa Council, who had a career-high 24 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals. Junior guard Elisabeth Daniels added 17 points on a night she went 4-5 from behind the arc. Charity Fowler had 11 points, five boards, and four assists for OBU. Paige Gauthier paced the Gold Nuggets with nine points and four rebounds. OBU's bench outscored the XULA reserves 33-18. The Lady Bison scored 26 points off 20 Xavier turnovers. OBU will take on Langston (Okla.) tomorrow at 5 p.m. as they wrap up the Capital City Classic.
