  • On the first of a three-day candidate filing period for open school board seats in Pottawatomie County, a race has already developed in McLoud.
    The filing periods ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday; elections will be held in February for races that develop.
    On Monday, two candidates filed for the Office No. 4 school board seat in McLoud — James D. Branscum, 65, and Doug VanScoyoc, 58.
    Other filings Monday by school district were:
    • North Rock Creek, Office No. 2 — Sherri Stacy, 47.
    • Grove Public School, Office No. 2 — Scott Pace, 38.
    • Dale Public Schools, Office No. 4 — Jeremy Payne, 34.
    • Bethel Public Schools, Office No. 4 — Joe Morlan, 57.
    • Wanette Public Schools, Office No. 3 — Bryan Lenn Richards, 52.
    • Wanette, Office No. 4 — Lynda L. Fullingim, 65.
    • Maud Public Schools, Office No. 4 — Stacy Ragan, 39.
    • Shawnee Public Schools, Office No. 3 — June Taffee, 67.
    • Gordon Cooper Technology Center, Office No. 1 — K. Dean Evans Jr., 50.
    In addition to those seats above, other seats for which Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted at the Pottawatomie County Election Board office until 5 p.m. Wednesday include the following:

    Diana Knight, secretary of the Pottawatomie County Election Board, said the filing period ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4.
    Board of Education positions at stake will be filled at the Annual School Election scheduled Feb. 11, 2014.
    If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in the election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in an election run-off on Tuesday, April 1, 2014.
