Family and loved ones of Everett Earl Thomas will gather at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, to mourn because we are human, and to rejoice because we are Christians. The celebration of his life will convene at the First Baptist Church, 16 E Street NE, with his final resting place in Clearview Cemetery.

Everett was born Dec. 30, 1938, in Ardmore, to Alfreda "AZ" and Dan Thomas. After 74 years of life on earth, he is absent from the body, thereby, present with the Lord. He entered into the arms of Jesus Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013. He graduated from Ardmore's Douglass High School with the class of 1956, received his associate's degree in political science from Murray State College, and continued undergraduate studies at Southeastern University in Durant. Everett enlisted in the Air Force and served from Oct. 4, 1956 until receiving an Honorable Discharge Oct. 3, 1960. He retired from Mobil Exxon Oil Company. He pronounced Jesus as Lord, and united with the First Baptist Church. He married the former Warene Denese Jones Alford on Jan. 19, 2006, in Gainesville, Texas.

Everett, a most unique individual, a virtuous, loyal and hardworking man, was loved and well respected.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Emma Thomas Wilcox; step-grandfather, William Wilcox; a daughter, Latrina Thomas; and a sister, Glenda Turner.

He leaves to forever cherish precious memories of their lives together his wife of 7-plus years; a daughter, Kimely (Kent) Wright; grandchildren Anthony, Donald, Dorian and Kent Jr.; step-children James Johnson, Jacqueline (James) Johnson Jones, Karen Alford and Christopher (Kendra) Alford; sisters Wallicia (Mack) Turner and Brenda (L.C.) Johnson; brothers Ronald (Christon) Thomas, Elvis Thomas and Terrance Thomas; aunts Johnetta "Peggy" Jenkins, Dormarine Turner and Joann Jones; uncle Delbert Cozy Williams; sisters-in-law Joe Ann (Floyd) Brown, Dollie (Willie Frank) Mitchem and Dorothy Barrow; brothers-in-law Joseph (Naomi) Jones, Alvin (Daphne) Jones, Calvin Jones and Chester Jones; and nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Kent Wright, Delkey Godwin, James Fagan, Anthony Fuller, Donald Fagan and Michael Fagan. Honorary bearers are Clifford Wilson, Jeremy Johnson and James Johnson. Flower bearers are Cynthia Godwin, Regina Lewis, Angela Menefee and Terry Thomas. Viewal will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday until noon.
