Oklahoma Baptist was defeated by Saint Xavier (Ill.) 88-74 Thursday afternoon at the Cruzin Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The No. 9 ranked Lady Bison lost for the first time since Nov. 4, and are now 7-2 on the season.
Saint Xavier took the lead early and never relinquished it after the 16:32 mark in the first half. A pair of free throws from junior Charity Fowler cut the deficit to one point later in the first, but the Lady Bison would trail by five at intermission.
OBU trailed throughout the second half, but struggled to gain ground. Marida Lewis made a layup with 9:09 left in the game to bring OBU down eight, but it was the closest the Lady Bison would get late in the game.
OBU shot 47.1 percent from the field in the first half, but made just 39.4 percent in the second, including shooting 9.1 percent from behind the three-point arc. The Cougars shot 52.4 percent from the field and went 6-11 from behind the arc for the game.
Jordan Brandt led the Cougars with 21 points and four rebounds. She was 6-8 from the field and made all four of her three-point attempts.
Senior guard Janell Beacham scored a team-high 15 points for OBU. Zbeyda Aremi grabbed eight rebounds and scored nine, and Fowler had 14 points to go along with six boards.
The Lady Bison will wrap up the Cruzin Classic Friday when they take on St. Thomas (Fla.) at 4 p.m.
