At an early age, Opal moved to Kansas City, Mo., there she was married to Ivory Mims from 1954 until 1961; to this marriage, five children were born. Opal married Curtis Cannady on Dec. 10, 1962, who preceded her in death on March 28, 2001, having celebrated 39 years of marriage.

A resident of Kansas City, Mo., for 56 years, Opal had worked at the Midwest and Ambassador Hotels, Central High School and also a nursing home. Failing health necessitated her return to Ardmore on Oct. 5, 2010. In her leisure time, Opal enjoyed reading, cooking, travel and being with family.

She is survived by her oldest son, Calvin Cohee and wife Faye of the home in Ardmore; Marvin Mims of Wichita, Kan., Wayne Mims and wife Debra; daughter Della Redd and husband Archie; a special grandson, Lenard Mims, whom she loved and cherished dearly as her own, all of Kansas City, Mo.; sister Myrtle Williamson of Ardmore; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a big host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Joe Mims; a grandson, Rodney Cohee; a great-grandson, Marquis Cohee; her bothers, Melvin, Carl, Raymond, Ralph and Earnest Cohee; and her sisters, Estella Cohee and Amanda Cohee.
