Sissy Borel speaks this evening at VFW Post 1317.

Armithea “Sissy” Borel, National President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, will speak this evening at Shawnee Post 1317.

The program begins at 7 p.m.

Borel of Starks, La., was elected National President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of

Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States at its 100th national convention in Louisville, Ky., on July 24, 2013.

A life member of Starks Memorial Auxiliary #4759, she joined on the eligibility of her brother, a Purple Heart recipient, who served in the U.S. Army, and she now has three sons who give

her eligibility, as well.

Borel will lead the organization under the theme “Keeping America's Veterans and Families

Strong” for the 2013-2014 year, which is the 100th year of service for the organization. She will

focus on strengthening membership and serving veterans and their families through the

national programs.

She has served the organization at the Auxiliary, district, department and national level. In

2004-2005 she was elected department President, earning Outstanding President of the Year in

her membership group.

She has also been National Assistant Conductress and National Chairman for the Southern Conference on the Membership and Buddy Poppy programs.
