Mabee Gerrer Museum meeting scheduled for Jan. 20.
Friends of the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art will meet on Jan. 20.
At 11 a.m., the monthly business meeting chaired by President Nelda Ward. will be in the volunteer gallery, followed by a soup/salad luncheon at 11:30.
Anyone interested in the museum is encouraged to come. Please bring a crock pot of soup, or an item to add to the salad bar for the lunch.
At noon, Dr. Madeline Rugh, a visiting professor of Art and Psychology at St. Gregory's University will present "The Intelligence of the Heart." Her talk is a brief introduction to dramatic research from the Heartmath Institute regarding the heart as an organ of perception and its relationship to ancient cross-cultural ideas and world wisdom traditions.
Dr. Rugh holds a masters degree in Art Education and a Ph.D.in Adult Education and Art. She specializes in developing arts-based programs for place-based learning and eco-literacy.
Donna Merkt, Curator of Education at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art said, "The ancient Egyptians and many global indigenous cultures believed that the heart, rather than the brain, was the center of perception and intelligence.
Dr. Rugh's task illuminates how contemporary scientists are rediscovering and reconsidering these ancient ideas of heart intelligence.
