  • DALE — The holiday season may have passed, but this time of year keeps on giving for the Dale boys' basketball team. The Pirates claimed their eighth straight win Friday night with a 44-37 triumph over visiting Latta. The guests began this week as the top-ranked team in 2A. Jeff Edmondson, Dale's head coach, said the team has done well since returning from the Christmas break. “It's been a really good stretch since Christmas,” he said. “We're not doing anything different. We're playing hard and together.” Edmondson added that the team's balance on offense has also played a role in their recent run. “Nobody's getting 20 [points], but a bunch of guys get anywhere from six to 15,” he said. “Different guys are stepping up each night, which helps. We're not relying on just one person.” Friday, it was Caleb Banks leading the way for the Pirates with 13 points. However, Jace Wilkins was on his heals with 12 points. Three other Pirates' players scored: Taron Carter had nine points, Latif Tobler scored six points and Gunner Hathcock chipped in four points. Meanwhile, Latta was led by Trestan Tulley's 11 points. Derrick Epperly added nine points for the visitors. The win improves Dale's record to 11-3 for the season. Tobler led the Pirates with 11 rebounds. Wilkins had 5 assists while Banks had 4. As a team, Dale was 11 of 14 from the free throw line. Latta snatches roady win over Lady Pirates DALE — Victory was just out of reach for the Dale Lady Pirates Friday night as visiting Latta grabbed a 45-39 victory. A pair of double-digit scorers and a full stat-line from Dani Manning wasn't enough for the hosts. Dales' Franchansca Burley led all scorers with 14 points while Hannah Ash added 10. Latta took a 20-15 lead into the locker room at halftime. Josh Forsythe, Dale's head coach said his team worked hard throughout the game. “They played really hard,” he said. “I'm really proud of that. With the loss, the Lady Pirates drop to 7-7 for the season. However, Forsythe sees good things on the horizon. “We're starting to gel,” he said. “If we keep it up, we'll have the opportunity to play well come playoff time.” Krisha Young and Shelbey Parnacker led Latta with 10 points apiece. Meanwhile for Dale, Manning filled the rest of her stat-line with four rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. NOTE: Reports compiled by Matt Caban.
